Together with our partners at Cambodian Self Help Demining (CSHD), we are in mourning. On Monday, 10 January 2022, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team 3 was responding to a call-out in Preah Vihear Province. There was an explosion, resulting in the deaths of 3 team members and the injury to a fourth.
These brave men have risked everything for years in the service of their country and humanity. On Monday they sacrificed their lives to make others safe. We honor their lives, and their sacrifice.
An investigation of the incident has begun and is ongoing. As it proceeds CSHD will have more information to provide.
The Landmine Relief Fund (LRF) is raising money for the families and all the funds raised in January will be distributed equally to the families of those lost. The Project Enlighten family has joined efforts with LMRF. Each team member, Kong Wong, Ma Simet and Morn Chok leave behind a wife and children, ranging in age from 4 months to 8 years.
The LMRF has so far raised $6,000 and that money has been distributed to the families. We are also supporting En Poy, the lone survivor, and his family during this difficult time
